How do I activate the gift card?
Your gift card is activated at the time of purchase and is ready to use immediately.
How do I register the gift card?
You can register your gift card online at www.plainscapitalbank.com/giftcard. Registering your gift card protects the value of your gift card and allows you to purchase a replacement card in the event your original is lost or stolen (see the gift card disclosures for terms and conditions). Registration also allows you to view your card balance online.
How can I check the remaining balance on my gift card?
You can check your remaining balance, view transaction history, and manage your gift card account online at www.plainscapitalbank.com/giftcard or by phone at 1-800-538-9990. There is no charge for checking your balance by phone or for viewing your account online. You must register your card in order to view balances online.
How do I make a purchase using my gift card?
You can make purchases using your gift card anywhere Visa is accepted. To make a purchase, swipe the card through a merchant pay terminal or give your card to the cashier.
Can I make a purchase for more than the dollar amount on the gift card?
Yes, however, you must pay the excess balance using some other payment method. If you plan to use two payment methods to make your purchase, tell the cashier how much to apply to your gift card before the cashier rings up your purchase-otherwise, your transaction may be declined.
Can I use the gift card at an ATM to withdraw money?
No.
What should I do if my gift card is lost or stolen?
If you have previously registered your card online, you may cancel the card and request a replacement using the gift card link at www.plainscapitalbank.com/giftcard. You will be charged a $5.00 card replacement fee.
How long is the gift card valid?
The expiration date for your gift card is located on the front of your card. You may continue to use your card until the expiration date or until no funds remain on the card. Please note that all remaining funds on the gift card will be lost when the card has expired.
Can I load additional funds onto my gift card?
Your gift card is not reloadable.
Can I use my gift card for phone and Internet purchases?
Yes, however, some merchants will decline your gift card if it is not registered. Visit www.plainscapitalbank.com/giftcard to register your card. Be sure that the billing address you use for purchases matches the address registered to your gift card.
Why was my card declined by a restaurant when I had enough money to pay the food bill?
The most frequent cause of this problem is the way in which restaurants have programmed their card terminals to account for the food server's tip in addition to the total amount of the food bill. The card terminals are typically programmed by restaurants to "up charge" the tip amount (usually between 15% - 20%) based on a percentage of the total food bill. This "up charge" is to ensure that you put the tip on your gift card and have the funds available to cover the total of your food bill plus tip. However, you will not be charged this "up charge" should you choose to pay a different tip amount or pay tip in cash - your gift card balance will reflect the total that you sign on the restaurant receipt.
Can I use my gift card to pay for gas at the pump?
No. Pay at the pump terminals will not accept your gift card as payment. To purchase gas using your gift card, please go inside the station to prepay the cashier.
Is it possible to receive the balance of my gift card in cash?
Yes. PlainsCapital Bank can issue a check for the balance of your gift card for a fee of $15.00. Please go to a PlainsCapital Bank location if you wish to cash your gift card.
